SmoothWall Project

SmoothWall Ltd was established in October 2001 to build on the success of the SmoothWall GPL product in the Open Source community.

The use of SmoothWall had proliferated widely since it was first released in August 2000 by Lawrence Manning, Richard Morrell, John Fautley and Tom Ellis. Many users were requesting the reassurance of a commercially supported solution for business use. SmoothWall Ltd was formed to focus on developing a comprehensive suite of Internet security products at a cost that would not be prohibitive to any size of organisation.

SmoothWall provides the glue that binds powerful Open Source components together forming user-friendly solutions to business needs. SmoothWall creates robust and commercially viable alternatives to the products of mainstream security vendors. In addition, SmoothWall's intuitive interface makes its software much easier to use than pure Linux solutions - perfect for the user with modest technical expertise.

SmoothWall remains responsive to the requirements of its user base. We listen. The company recognises its heritage in the Open Source community by continuing to help fund the SmoothWall GPL project and other Open Source activities as well as progressively releasing commercially developed features back into the GPL version.
